Governor Pedro R. Pierliuisi created the Puerto Rico Broadband Program to ensure all islanders have access to fast and reliable internet service. This program will use both local and federal funds. It is designed to bring essential broadband infrastructure to all Puerto Ricans over five years.
The program is being overseen by committee. It's being administered by Puerto Rico's chief innovation and information executive, as well as the assistant secretary of innovation, information, data and technology, a telecommunications bureau official, an office of management and budget official, and a finance department official.
The Committee will be chaired by the executive director of the Puerto Rico OMB.
The broadband office is also governed by an advisory committee. That committee is made up of representatives from: the Financial Advisory Authority and Fiscal Agency (AAFAF,) the Department of Public Safety (DSP,) the Permit Management Office (OGPe,) the Highway Authority and Transportation (ACT,) the Federation of Mayors, the Association of Mayors, and a representative of the Puerto Rican Telecommunications Alliance.
