<h2 style="margin-left:0px;">About Our Distinguished Guest</h2>Sally Burchfield Doty was named by Governor Tate Reeves as the first director of the Office of Broadband Expansion and Accessibility of Mississippi (BEAM). The new office serves as the single point of contact for broadband policy, grant funding, and administration for the State of Mississippi.Sally is an attorney, and most recently served as the Executive Director of the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff. Previously she served three terms in the Mississippi Senate representing Southwest Mississippi, serving as Vice Chair of <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Judiciary,_Division_A_Committee,_Mississippi_State_Senate">Judiciary Division A</a> and Vice-Chair of <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Public_Property_Committee,_Mississippi_State_Senate">Public Property</a>. She also worked on a wide range of other issues on a <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Sally_Doty">whole host of other committees</a>.Sally grew up in Kosciusko but has lived in Brookhaven for 25 years. <h2 style="margin-left:0px;">About Our Distinguished Guest</h2>Berke served as a state senator for Tennessee's 10th District from 2007-2012. He then went on to serve as Chattanooga's Mayor between 2013-2021, where he won widespread recognition for many accomplishments, including his work on digital equity and for his heroic efforts to<a href="https://prospect.org/infrastructure/building-back-america/infrastructure-success-story-in-chattanooga/"> establish a municipal broadband network</a> through the local power company. President Joe Biden appointed Berke to become the Agriculture Department's <a href="https://www.rd.usda.gov/about-rd/agencies/rural-utilities-service">Rural Utilities Service </a>administrator in early October. The role puts him in charge of helping with infrastructure improvements to rural communities. These include water and waste treatment, electric power and telecommunications services.

He also serves as a principal liaison between the BroadbandUSA and OIGC program offices and key strategic partners and external stakeholder groups, including representatives from state and local governments, telecommunications companies, for-profit and non-profit corporations, and colleges/universities.Prior to his new leadership role, Mr. Woods served as the Team Lead for the Connecting Minority Communities Pilot Program, a new grant program to provide $268 million in direct funding to expand broadband access, connectivity and digital inclusion to eligible Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges or Universities (TCUs), Minority-serving Institutions (MSIs) and the anchor communities upon which these institutions serve. <h2 style="margin-left:0px;">About Our Distinguished Guest</h2>Peggy Schaffer currently serves as Executive Director of ConnectMaine. She is known and celebrated in the broadband community, a long-time champion of local partnerships, and a pioneer of many of the key concepts found in IIJA. As Executive Director of ConnectMaine, Peggy manages the Authority’s rulemaking efforts, investment decisions and policy recommendations. Peggy was the Small Business Advocate for the Secretary of State's office, and served as the Co-chair of the Maine Broadband Coalition, a statewide group advocating for high speed broadband. Peggy was the Chief of Staff in the Senate Majority Office and the Senate President's office. Peggy also worked as the lobbyist for the Department of Economic and Community Development&nbsp; where she helped develop and implemented many of the State’s key economic initiatives under both King and Baldacci and was part of the team of people that created Maine’s Research and Development infrastructure. Peggy lives in Vassalboro, Maine, and has ambitions to travel the USA in an Airstream someday.

<h2 style="margin-left:0px;">About Our Distinguished Guest</h2>Jade Piros de Carvalho is no stranger to government work. For the past decade, Jade has served the City of Hutchinson, Kansas, in several capacities, including representative, vice-mayor, and currently, mayor.Despite serving on the city council as mayor, Jade also serves the state of Kansas as the director of the office of broadband development -- a position she had held for the past seven months.Jade holds a Master of Public Administration in public policy analysis from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Wichita State University.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Deputy director of the Indiana Broadband Office, Earnie Holtrey, shares with us his knowledge in the broadband industry.

<h2 style="margin-left:0px;">About Our Distinguished Guest</h2>Earnie Holtrey has served the state of Indiana in its broadband office for the past four years. Previously, he worked as a project manager for the Office of Broadband Opportunities -- a precursor to the the state broadband office.&nbsp;Prior to his work with the Office of Broadband Opportunities, Earnie served as the East Central Community Liaison for the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, which helped to dispense broadband grants.Earnie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Ohio State University.&nbsp;
